Chevrolet Sail EV renamed Sail Springo EV looks like it’s all ready for its public debut at the Guangzhou Auto Show which has commeced yesterday.
The Sail Springo EV is a collaboration between GM and China’s SAIC which combines the Chevy Spark EV’s electric powertrain with the Volt’s styling. We already have images of the electric car along with its interior images on the internet, but it’s best not to expect too much about this car.
The best part of this car is the interior. Its automatic gear knob looks really stylish and futuristic ,which easily stands out from the rest of the cabin elements.
GM hasn’t confirmed anything yet, but the Springo EV will be having the same 87 horsepower electric motor as the Spark EV, with electricity coming from a lithium ion battery pack and and it takes around 7 hours for a full charge on a household 220V outlet. The battery pack has a range of 150km and it hangs under the car. It supplies energy to the 85 KW motor which can propel the EV to a top speed of 130 km.
GM and SAIC plan to release the car in China before the end of this year, and it will most probably be available in India by next-year. The Springo EV is priced at a whopping 258,000 Yuan (around Rs. 22.86 lakh), but it is available for the buyers under subsidized rate through a pilot project in Shanghai with 100,000 Yuan (around Rs. 8.86 lakh) apart from free registration.
