Here we have the new Ford Figo Aspire, a new compact sedan for India. The Figo compact sedan debuted as a semi-concept at the 2014 Indian Auto Expo held at New Delhi. The final-production version of this compact sedan was showcased recently at Ford’s new plant at Sanand (outskirts of Ahmedabad) and will launch on the Indian auto market in June-2015.
The new design language featuring Aston Martin like front hexagonal grille.
The production of the upcoming Figo Aspire has already commenced at its new Sanand plant, while its hatchback sibling will enter production later this-year. The Figo Aspire is a replacement for the ageing Ford Classic (old Ford Fiesta) in Ford India’s lineup. Once launched, the Figo Aspire will compete with the likes of the Maruti Dzire, Honda Amaze, Hyundai Xcent and the Tata Zest.
Built on an all-new platform, the Figo Aspire is confirmed to be powered with three-engine, two-transmission options. The base model will get the 1.2-litre Sigma petrol engine found in the current Figo but will now come with an increased power output of 80 bhp. The second engine will be the familiar 1.5-litre diesel mill found in the EcoSport. Just like the petrol unit, Ford is likely to increase its power from 89 bhp to 100 bhp. These two engines will be mated to a 5-speed manual transmission.
The top-end variant of the Figo Aspire will get first-in-the-class side and curtain airbags.
The third engine option is likely to be available in higher variants of Figo Aspire, the 1.5-litre Sigma petrol engine which is also found in the EcoSport. This engine will churn-out 109 bhp and will be available only with a 6-speed automatic dual-clutch transmission (DCT). This variant of the Figo Aspire will be considerably more expensive than its rivals. But the rest of the variants is likely to surprise us again with a very aggressive price, just like with the Ecosport.
