Ford EcoSport becomes the most exported SUV for the FY 2016 as per the data released by Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM). This spot was earlier taken up by Nissan Micra which exported about 75,456 units in FY 16, registering a drop of 1% than the previous year.
Ford exported about 83,325 units this year alone, which is about 51% higher than the 55,178 EcoSport units exported last year. Ford India export EcoSport to countries including Australia, Taiwan, European countries, and also Asian and South American countries. To cater to the growing demand for the export the company is also planning to shift the production of the vehicles to its manufacturing facility in Romania.
The data released by SIAM also shows Hyundai Motors as the largest exporter of cars with cars like i10 and i20 to European countries and other Asian countries. Although there is a 9.57% drop resulting in 135,405 units as compared to the 2015 figures. The drop in the export numbers from India is a result of the shift of export vehicles manufactured in the factories in Turkey and other countries to meet the increasing demand in the domestic market.
Maruti Suzuki is the second largest exporter with a rise of 73% for its cars like Alto. The increase in the export number came after a rise in demand from markets like Sri Lanka where 34,600 units were exported as compared to 10,200 units in the year 2015.
