Following a first look at the 2013 Ford B-MAX before its 2012 Geneva Motor Show debut earlier this month, FoMoCo today revealed the first look at its unique door system for the model that it says offers ‘unrivalled ease-of-access.’
Known as Ford’s Easy Access Door System, the feature integrates the central body pillars into the door of its MPV to create a 1.5 meter wide opening on either side of the car.
“Door systems like this have been a designer’s dream for many years,” said Stefan Lamm, exterior design director, Ford of Europe. “We have taken the concept from an idea on a designer’s sketch pad, to a stylish and versatile product on the showroom floor.”
“We set ourselves the challenge of re-imagining the small car,” he added. “People are struggling with the spatial challenges of city driving and we wanted to find a new solution.”
While developing the feature, Ford engineers spent many days observing drivers and their daily routine – kind of freaky but hey, it made life easier.
