The DC Avanti, India’s first indigenous sports car – now that is something great that the Indian automotive industry can boast of. Couple of weeks earlier we had posted an article about the DC Avanti being spotted while undergoing camouflaged testing and said that it would be launched soon. Well, now we have more important news, more specifically, a Date. Yes, according to a report we have received, DC design will officially launch the Avanti later today.
DC Avanti, the first sportscar entirely built in India has no competition for now.
The DC Avanti was unveiled as a concept at the 2012 Auto Expo, but after that it took them more than 3 years to bring it to the production ready stage. At the 2014 Auto Expo, DC Design unveiled a production ready Avanti after which they began testing the Avanti across India.
DC design has used carbon composites and Spaceframe construction to make the Avanti really light. The kerb weight is claimed to be 1,580 kilograms. The DC Avanti measures 4,550 mm in length, 1,965 mm in width, 1,200 mm in height and 2,700 mm in wheelbase, this coupled with a ground clearance of 170mm, and it looks like this sports car is ready to take on any obstacle Indian roads throw at it.
It remains to be seen if the Avanti for ultimate customers will come with an airbag.
The DC Avanti is powered by a 2.0 liter, 4-cylinder, turbocharged petrol engine sourced from Renault’s motorsport division, Renault sport. The 2.0 liter turbo-petrol motor has a maximum power output of 250 BHP and a maximum torque output of 360 NM, enough to take the DC Avanti from 0-100 KMPH in 6 seconds. The power is sent to the rear wheels through a 6-speed manual gearbox and has a top speed of 200 kmph. The DC Avanti has a double wishbone suspension setup at the front and the rear and the car is shod with 255/35 tires at the front and meatier 295/30 tires at the rear, on 20-inch rims.
The first production run, a batch of 500 units have already been sold out at INR 34.93 lakhs, ex-Showroom for each car. The official launch will take place later today.
