The world renowned brand Nissan is all set to get back the Datsun brand after 32 long years in markets like India, Russia, South Africa and Indonesia. The Global premiere of the Datsun brand in India would be done in New Delhi on July 15th. According to the information obtained by our friends at AutoCar India, Mr. Carlos Ghosn, global CEO of Renault Nissan is expected to reveal the first Datsun model which would be a five door hatchback.
Datsun’s upcoming hatchback is codenamed as K2 and will be powered by the same 1.2-litre 3 cylinder petrol engine inherited from Micra. For now Datsun would not be available in a diesel variant. Nissan is investing heavily on Datsun brand in order to compete its rivals and is also expecting to sell around 1,50,000 to 2,00,000 cars in the Indian market. Mr. Vincent Cobee, Corporate Vice President, Datsun Business Unit said that “India is a tough market and it’s not going to be a picnic for us, but we believe Datsun can crack it with modernity and a superior product”.
Coming to the actual discussion, what would the Datsun K2 be named as? Will it have a new name or will it inherit an old name which would bring the fond memories left behind and also get back the fame which existed earlier? Some of the cars which achieved success were Fairlady, Lila, Bluebird, Silvia, Leopard, Auster, Liberty, Liberta, Cedric, Cherry, Violet and Laurel. Write in your valuable opinions to us!
