It’s going to be the battle of the petrol’s between the recently launched cars – the Chevrolet Beat and the Ford Figo. Wondering why not the VW Polo? yea, the Polo is a premium hatch and when comparing the prices, the VW Polo isn’t in the league itself. These cars have a difference of about a lakh of rupees.
We are going to compare the Chevrolet Beat and the Ford Figo in terms of Styling, Dimensions, Interiors, Comfort, Quality, Performance, Ride & Handling, features and of course Value for Money. All we are here to do is guide you through with your requirements and not to declare a clear winner.
Exterior Styling & Engine Specs:
The Chevrolet Beats styling is very modern, futuristic, aggressive and young. This will certainly impress the young generation and it did tend to impress most of the older customers. There is the head turning factor in the Beat. The aggressive long headlights and those huge grille along with the tail lamps and character lines everywhere possible, impresses! The Beat has a design statement.
The Ford Figo on the other hand does its impressing bit because of its neat frontal design and its neatly designed tail lamps. But however, the Figo surely doesn’t bring itself from the crowd of hatchbacks. Its design is familiar. From where? The failed Ford Fusion. The Figo doesn’t have the head turning factor but it does turn out to be quite a handsome car which would favour those people who wouldn’t want a car that looks too funky.
The Ford Figo beats the Beat in all dimensions Length, width & wheelbase, except in height. The Figo is longer and wider than the Beat, which gives the Figo an extra reason to be sold.
The Chevrolet Beat comes with a 1.2L Engine that produces 80.5 bhp of power and torque of 108Nm. The Ford Figo comes with a 1.2L engine that produces 71bhp of power and torque of 102Nm. Clearly, the Beat produces more power and torque than the Figo, which gives the Beat a special place.
Interior Styling, Comfort & Features:
The interior of the Chevrolet beat is undoubtedly the best in class. The beautifully designed dashboard consists of a blended central console whose buttons have been incorporated with light blue lights, which adds to its pros. The instrument cluster is very unique which consist of LED backlit speedometer and LCD digital tachometer. My personal favourite is the racing type steering wheel which has work of silver in it.
The Chevrolet Beat can accommodate 4 people comfortably, but adding a 5th adult would be slightly problematic. The Features include MP3 player with USB and Aux-in compatibility, cup holders, power windows, automatic climate control, 60:40 split folding rear seats, tilt steering wheel and internally adjustable ORVMs. The boot of the Beat is however very disappointing as it is smaller than most of its competitors.
After seeing the interiors of the Chevy Beat, the Figo’s don’t seem to be interesting at all. The top end version gives an option of a Coral red dashboard, which is an eye paining option, the colors just don’t seem to mix and match. It’s been there, seen that type of an interior as it is also seen in the Fusion and the Fiesta. The silver adding’s on the doors don’t seem to be doing much, but yes it is a good add on.
Where the Ford Figo scores is on areas of space. It does give much more space than what the Beat offers especially the boot. The boot of the Figo is very spacious. The features include MP3 player with bluetooth connectivity, Distance to empty indicator, only front power windows, remote boot open, remote fuel tank, Electrically adjustable OSRVMs and cup holders at the front and removable parcel tray.
Performance, Ride & Handling:
The Chevrolet Beat is definitely the more powerful one in terms of specs, but let me tell you that the Beat is an great city car. The refinement at low rpms is impressive but things get cranky when taken to the next level. The Beat is sturdy with slight chances of a body roll. The suspension is great and takes the roads well and it is also fun to manueover the Beat The ride quality, handling and low rpm refinement is something the Beat is great at.
The Ford Figo doesnt do itself any justice by having an engine that produces 71bhp. But for city rides, there is decent pull. The Figo is no dragger but it provides enough push. But Ford coming from a family of great petrol engines, we had better expectations from the petrol version. The ride quality is very good and sturdy, mainly due to the suspensions and the low height. The handling part also impressed me along with the great steering feedback. Ford Figo gives itself a decent performance but does no justice to the current 1.4L and 1.6L petrols availble in India.
Safety Features:
The Chevrolet Beat scored a 4 star NCAP safety rating. The safety features include ABS, dual airbags, rear defogger, central locking, rear wash nd wipe, front fog lamp, seatbelts with loadlimiters. The Ford Figo is also well equipped on safety with features like dual airbags, rear defogger, ABS with EBD, rear wash and wipe, engine immobilizer, central locking and 3 point seatbelts. Both the cars seem to be equally equipped in terms of safety.

The pricing of both the cars are almost similar and the features are almost the same. Both the cars are actually Value for Money. The Beat is stylish, has great futuristic interiors and performs and handles great. But the Figo is bigger in size and the figo is better and sturdier at higher speeds. If you want a tad more space and take it to the highways often, the Figo is your man, otherwise it’s the Beat all the way.
