At the beginning of this-year, we had reported that BMW has confirmed to produce the BMW X4, a baby version of the BMW X6. Now according to the recent article in AutoWeek, the BMW X4 is all-set to make its concept (close to production) debut at the 2013 Detroit Auto Show in January.
With the success of BMW X6, the X4 is essentially a smaller BMW X6 based on the BMW X3’s platform. Codenamed F26, the X4 will be a crossover between a coupe and an SUV and will be the entry level SAV (Sports Activity Coupe) for BMW.
It will slot in below the X5 and is expected to compete with vehicles like the Range Rover Evoque and Porsche Macan crossover which is due to debut at around the same time. The report says prices for the SAV will start at 42,000 dollars (Rs 23 lakh before taxes and duties) and will go on sale in the US market in early-2014.
The X4 crossover will be made at BMW’s facility in Spartanburg, South Carolina, where the X5, X6 and the X3 are also produced. Likewise, with the demand for crossovers in the Asian markets increasing quite rapidly, expect BMW to bring this model here in CBU form soon after its international debut.
