At 2015 India Bike Week held in February this year, Benelli made its foray into the Indian market with first 5 models including – entry level street fighter Benelli TNT 300, mid-size naked bike TNT 600i, mid-size sports tourer with adventure stance – TNT 600GT, mid-size naked TNT 899 and super naked TNT 1130 R.
This Chinese owned Italian bike manufacturer has bigger plans and intends to bring motorcycles in the mass market 150cc category in the future. With this clear-cut plan the bike manufacturer showcased the TNT 15 150cc motorcycle at a trade fair in Jakarta, Indonesia, and quoted the price around 18 million Indonesian Rupiah, which is equivalent to around 86,000 INR (by the current exchange rates).
The TNT 15 is powered by a new 148cc, air-cooled engine, 4-stroke, 2-valve, single-cylinder engine with a 9.2:1 compression ratio and comes mated to a 5-speed gearbox. Power and torque outputs have not been released yet. The 17-inch 5-spoke alloy wheels are shod with 90/90-17 rubber upfront and 110/90-17 unit at the rear. Braking hardware includes a single petal disc at the front and a drum brake at the rear.
According to trusted source, DSK Motowheels could launch the Benelli TNT 15 in the Indian market soon along with some other upcoming Benelli models. This will help the DSK Benelli to get into the mass market motorcycle segment. If launched in India, the TNT 15 will compete in the highly populated 150cc segment against the Bajaj Pulsar, Yamaha FZ, Suzuki Gixxer and other 150cc motorcycles.
