It is now a well known fact that Bajaj Auto is very soon going to launch its first Super-Sport motorcycle, the Pulsar SS200. The testing of this motorcycle began quite some time ago, and they still are testing it even unto this day, the only difference is that, the motorcycle has lost a lot of the camouflage that was on the bike in the beginning and it has now got a few new additions in order for it to be more road-friendly. The fact that the test mule that was spied testing recently, at Chakan, near the Bajaj production facility recently had the accessories kit fitted, including the traditional Sari guard only proves that the Pulsar SS200 is very close to its actual launch date.

This motorcycle is quite an important one for Bajaj Auto, as it marks their debut into the fully faired, low-capacity, high performance segment. Bajaj Auto is also depending on the SS200 to be a high-volume seller, as they’re engineering it not just for outright performance, but to be an all-rounder. The Pulsar SS200 will be engineered to take touring and commuting, traffic riding and highway riding, and even the occasional track day, all in its stride.
The motorcycles design will be based loosely on the design of the Bajaj Pulsar SS400 displayed at the Auto Expo earlier this year. Due to the camouflage hiding the actual lines of the bike, it is difficult to judge the design at this time, but however, one thing that stands out and is immediately noticed is the sporty exhaust end-can, which is purported to emit a really nice sound.

Under the skin, the Pulsar SS200 is based on the Chassis of the Pulsar 200 NS, of course with a few changes to support the new stance and the bodywork etc. even the engine is based on that of the 200 NS’s. As said earlier, the SS200 is made to be an all-rounder and hence the engine too would be tuned to have a similar character. Instead of having the urgency in revving, found on the KTM RC 200, the Pulsar SS200 will be smoother and power delivery will be more linear. But it is by no means a slouch; it will have a reasonable amount of power, somewhere in the region of 24 PS. The SS200 is expected to use fuel injection technology, and it may come with an option for ABS too.
Just as the first Pulsar did, this new generation of Pulsar too, might change the way Indians look at biking.
