Audi has officially confirmed its plan to launch Audi Q3 in India in early 2012, which seems like a very good time with the Auto Expo 2012 in Delhi is scheduled for January 2012. The car maybe officially unveiled or even launched at the Auto Expo itself. The Q3 is the latest compact SUV from Audi and has been officially revealed on global level in April 2011.
Audi Q3 a five-door coupe crossover will be aimed as more of a lifestyle/sports car, rather than for the family/off-road market like the Q5 & Q7.
The Q3 will be assembled in India to keep costs low and will a volumes driver for Audi India. The Q3 could sport a 1.8 litre petrol engine with 170-hp and a new 2.0-litre common-rail TDI that will come in 136-hp.
Other available features will include the Audi Connect audio and mobile connectivity interface, a 14-speaker Bose surround sound system, extendable seven-inch display screen with hard drive navigation and 3D mapping, internet connectivity and live traffic updates.
Driver assist features include automatic park assist, active lane assist, side assist and in-vehicle speed limit display.
The new Q3 which will go head on to the X1 will be slotted in a similar price segment. Also the Honda CRV and Toyota Fortuner are tough competitions in the same segment. The Q3 is also expected to be priced in the band of Rs. 22 Lakhs to Rs. 25 Lakhs to give the competitors a reason to buckle up.
Audi executive Michael Perschke in an interaction with media quoted:
‘We are planning to launch the Audi A6 in August this year followed by Audi Q3 early next year.’
The Audi had planned to sell 4k to 5k units in 2011. As Audi has set some targets that had to be accomplished, executive added.
Mercedes rival is also launching the baby SUV but in the year 2014.
