There is a neck-to-neck competition in the automatic versions of SUV segment under the price of Rs 20 lakhs. The ace players in the segment are Mahindra Scorpio automatic, Chevrolet Captiva and Ford Endeavour. Mahindra and Mahindra is also said to be considering an automatic version of its latest winner Mahindra XUV 500. After the launch of the 2×2 variant of Tata Aria with a substantial amount slashed down from its price, the sales of the crossover have almost doubled. Now, Tata Motors intend to retaliate with the launch of Tata Aria AT under Rs 20 lakhs to give more edge to the competition.

On the other hand, the leading Indian car manufacturer might have plans well laid out for its other car models as well. The speculations are high that the Tata Motors is considering an automatic gearbox version for its other 2.2 L DICOR diesel engine fleet of cars. Tata Motors could probably consider upcoming Tata Merlin with an automatic gearbox to offer a tough competition to Mahindra XUV 500 in future. The automatic Tata Aria price might be Rs 1 lakh more than the outgoing model. The outgoing Tata Aria comes affixed with a 2.2 L DICOR diesel engine laden with a plethora of features. The diesel engine has the capacity to produce the peak power of 140 Ps and a peak torque of 320 Nm.
