Homologation test is carried out to certify if the car is road ready and is a standard procedure in all countries. In India test is carried out by various organisations at multiple locations. One of which includes the Automobile Research Association of India (ARAI) based out in Pune. Recently the line of cars being tested at ARAI was joined by the 2014 E-Class sedan and the B-Class diesel Sports Tourer.
Mercedes-Benz is all set to launch the diesel variant B-Class by the end of the first quarter. The A-Class Sports Hatchback might be launched soon after or along with the diesel B-Class. The petrol variant of the B-Class is already sold as a CBU in the Indian market. The diesel variant is expected to be costlier than the existing petrol variant.
Mercedes also plans to launch the facelift E-Class in India which was revealed in the 2013 Detroit Motor show by the second half of the year. The car will be manufactured in the Chakan plant, near Pune. The facelift E-Class is expected to compete against the current leaders like the BMW 5-Series and Audi A6 in the luxury car segment.
