Aprilia SXR 160 rolls-off next month, dealers open booking

Aprilia will now be shifting their focus towards the SXR 160, which is set to be their next product launch for India. In fact, it is being reported that the maxi-scooter could be on its way to our market as early as next-month. Aprilia have also opened the bookings for the SXR 160, albeit in an unofficial manner.

Dealerships of the brand are asking for Rs.5,000 as booking amount for the upcoming maxi-scooter. The amount could vary in different dealerships across the country. That said, we can expect deliveries of the Aprilia SXR 160 to commence soon, probably during the beginning of 2021.

The Aprilia SXR 160 was first shown to the Indian public during the 2020 Auto Expo held not long ago. The model is based on Aprilia’s Cross-Max concept, which is in practice in a few markets across the world. Aprilia could give the SXR 160 features such as LED headlights, smartphone connectivity and a digital instrument cluster to name a few.

Engine-wise, the Aprilia SXR 160 will feature the same motor as seen on the SR 160. This is a 159.7cc, single-cylinder engine capable of making 11 BHP of power and 11.6 Nm of torque. Aprilia have recently upgraded the engine to the BS-VI emission norms which are currently in place.

The Piaggio-owned brand had mentioned that the Aprilia SXR 160 had been exclusively designed keeping the Indian market in mind. It will be followed by the SXR 125 next year, which will be employing the 125cc motor from the SR 125. The SXR 125 will be placed above the SR 125 in Aprilia’s India line-up and could come at a price of around Rs.1.25 lakh (ex-showroom, India).

Now coming to the Aprilia SXR 160, it does not have any direct competition in the 160cc maxi-scooter space as of now. Thus, Aprilia will be looking on forming a segment of their own in the market with the SXR 160. Prices for the SXR 160 could be in the range of Rs.1.40 lakh (ex-showroom, India) by the time it gets launched in our market.
