Ford India has previously announced of launching 8 new models in the country by 2015 of which the first was the recent 2011 Ford Fiesta. This leaves us with seven models in the next three years, few of which are certain (Focus, Mondeo, Fiesta Hatchback).
Ford has clearly mentioned that they plan to expand market share by launching new models which will help them increase their sales. Now the Focus and Mondeo are no volumes puller and therefore some interesting product is definitely expected from the major. Ford EcoSport is one such car, from the compact SUV segment, which we think will definitely arrive in India, probably early next year.
It is expected that Ford EcoSport will do wonders to the SUV segment as Ford Figo did to the hatchback segment of the Indian car market. The new Ford EcoSport is basically a compact SUV, which will be priced reasonably.
What makes this car special is that it shares its platform and many of the components with the Fiesta. The car, since its launch in 2004, has been ruling the market in Brazil, Argentina, Venezuela and Mexico and even bagged a place in the top ten car’s list in Brazil.
The major features of Ford EcoSport compact SUV include 1.5 litre of DuraTroq diesel motors, which is taken from the new Ford Fiesta. The engine of Ford EcoSport keeps the capacity to churn out maximum power of 90 BHP accompanied with 204 Nm of torque. The SUV has a high fuel efficiency, which in turn would provide a decent mileage. Ford EcoSport price in India is kept under the wraps, but if it is priced near Rs. 8 lakh, then nobody can stop the new Ford EcoSport from being highly successful.
