Renault are planning a slew of new launches in the Indian market over the next couple of years. This is to tackle the recent slide in sales numbers for the French automaker in our country. As far as we know, Renault will bring the Triber MPV and a sub-4 metre SUV, codenamed the RBC.
While the Triber is likely to come by the end of this year, we have to wait until next year to receive the RBC. Both these models will mark Renault’s presence in the MPV and compact SUV segment. However, one model which Renault cannot rule out for India will be the Arkana.
Renault revealed the Arkana during the 2018 Moscow international auto show last year. The Arkana is basically a SUV-coupe based on the platform of the Duster. As of now, the coupe segment is almost unheard of here, by means of which Renault could cash in.
In 2015, Renault launched the Kwid here, which was an unconventional product aimed at the masses. With the Kwid proving to be a success, Renault will not shy away from bringing another unconventional product here. The Arkana could slot in between the Duster and Captur in Renault’s line line-up.
On design, the Arkana looks similar to the BMW X4 and X6. Despite its different proportions, the Arkana is expected to be very spacious on the inside. The coupe SUV could feature a 1.3-litre turbo petrol engine seen on the Duster.
On the price front, the Arkana will be a heavily localised product here as the Duster, meaning it could come at an affordable price point. The Arkana, when launched, could rival more traditional SUVs like the Jeep Compass, Hyundai Creta, Tata Harrier and the Nissan Kicks. We can expect Renault to bring the coupe-SUV here by the year 2020.
