Renault recently took the covers off its much awaited coupe-SUV, the Arkana. The Arkana was showcased at the 2018 Moscow Motor Show in Russia. It warmed up to a good response at that event and Renault are very optimistic on launching it soon.
The Arkana will be launched in Russia initially, followed by other markets. Renault stated that the Arkana was developed keeping in mind various emerging markets around the world. India does fall under this category so we can expect the Arkana to be here by 2020.
On design, the Arkana looks very futuristic and sure to grab some attention. The coupe-SUV features a high waistline and a sloping roofline reminiscent of coupe-crossovers from BMW and Mercedes-Benz. It also sports 19-inch alloy wheels as well as a fixed panoramic glass roof.
Engine-wise, the Renault Arkana will be powered by the new 1.3-litre turbocharged petrol engine. This engine produces 160 bhp of power and 260 Nm of torque. It will come mated either to a 6-speed manual transmission or a 7-speed automatic one.
As far as its India launch is concerned, Renault look likely to be bringing it here considering the huge potential of the mid-size SUV segment here. Renault already have the Duster and the Captur in this segment, but poor sales numbers of both recently have resulted in a cause of concern for the company. When launched, the Renault Arkana will have its rivals in the form of the Jeep Compass, the Hyundai Creta and the upcoming Tata Harrier.
