KTM India have decided that they will night retail models which are bigger than the Duke 390 from its international lineup here in India. This will include the KTM Duke 790 which was recently shown at EICMA 2017. This is a step by KTM, who would not want to tamper with their current lineup of bikes in India and stick to their work of making affordable sports bikes.
But bringing the Duke 790 to India will also have some draw backs like shipping sister parts from Austria. The Duke 790, which was bound to be launched in the country is an Duke 690 with a bigger displacement engine. KTM have also said that they have no plans of manufacturing much-talked Swedish-bike brand Husqvarna motorcycles here in India.
KTM currently manufactures a range motorcycles in India at Bajaj’s Chakan plant in Maharashtra, with 8 models going under the hammer (Duke 125, Duke 200, Duke 250, RC 125, RC 200, RC 250, Duke 390, RC 390). With India set to become the world’s largest market for KTM in the coming years, expect more affordable bike to land on Indian shores in the future. Recent launches have justified KTM’s position in the Indian market, where the sales figures have met expectations in recent times.
KTM operates in the affordable premium sports bike spectrum in India, where it holds almost 80% of market share. The coming years will surely be more exciting as KTM will look to hold its own against growing competition from rivals such as DSK Benelli and Hyosung.
