The Ritz-replacement, Maruti Suzuki Ignis makes its official launch today at a starting price of Rs. 4.59 lakh for the petrol and Rs. 6.39 lakh for the diesel (all prices ex-showroom, Delhi). It will be retailed only through the Nexa range of premium dealerships.
With 2 engine options – Petrol and Diesel, a total of 4 variants are on offer – Sigma, Delta, Zeta and Alpha, surprisingly the entry-level Sigma trim being offered only with the petrol option. Bookings for the Ignis are now open. However, you can only book the car online for now via the NEXA website by paying Rs. 11,000. Also this amount is fully refundable in case you decide not to buy the car.
The Ignis certainly cuts a striking figure, with a cross-over like design which engulfs a mask-like front end accentuated by large projector headlights and U-shaped LED daytime running lights. The wraparound windscreen is also unique, while the rear end features a dramatically truncated rear end; side gets beefed up wheel arches, blacked out 15-inch alloy wheels and a thick C-pillar with the Suzuki triad design.
The interior is slightly strange, as its not seen in any Maruti till now. It features dual tone dashboard layout, SmartPlay touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto & Mirror Link, automatic climate control system with toggle switches, start/stop button and electrically adjustable & foldable ORVMs.
As far as safety is concerned, the Ignis comes equipped with dual airbags, ABS + EBD and ISOFIX child seat mounts as standard across all variants. The company claims that the Ignis has been designed and engineered to meet upcoming side impact, offset crash and pedestrian safety norms. The Ignis is available in 6 paint shades – Pearl Arctic White, Uptown Red, Silky Silver, Tinsel Blue, Glistening Grey and Urban Blue.
An engine option have been carried over from the Swift sold in India, and includes 1.2-litre, 4-cylinder petrol that develops 83 hp at 6,000 rpm and 115 Nm at 4,000 rpm, as well as a 1.3-litre, 4-cylinder DDiS diesel that pushes out 74 hp at 4,000 rpm and 190 Nm at 2,000 rpm. Both engines are available with either a 5-speed manual gearbox or a 5-speed Auto Gear Shift (AGS) automated manual transmission. Maruti claims a fuel efficiency of 20.89 KMPL for petrol, and 26.80 KMPL for diesel.
