The Suzuki Swift has been a Global hit ever since it was launched more than a decade ago. The Swift has sold very well across all markets and the only number which is higher than its sales number is the number of smiles seen on the face of the people who have been driving it and have been driven in it. The Swift really does put a broad smile on the face of the people who use it, and Suzuki is now looking forward to put a bigger smile on their faces.
Suzuki recently launched the Swift GS in Indonesia, to bridge the gap between the Swift Sport and the Standard Swift. Most countries have the Standard Swift on sale and some privileged countries have the Swift Sport on sale.
Now, the standard Swift is the same across the globe, except for the engine options available. The Standard Swift is powered by either a 1.3 liter diesel or a 1.4 liter petrol engine (India gets the 1.2 liter petrol engine instead of the 1.4 liter) and these engines in that potent chassis makes this one of the most fun-to-drive Hatchbacks out there, but this is just a potent car. In some privileged countries, Suzuki has been selling the swift sport, which is actually a tricked up Suzuki swift. The engineers at Suzuki took the Standard Swift’s potent chassis to its maximum potential by tweaking the suspension, adding bigger wheels, grippier tires, and most importantly a more powerful engine.
All this was very good indeed, but it also made the price go up considerably and this left a large gap between the Suzuki Swift and the Suzuki Swift Sport which is what made sense about the Suzuki Swift GS. The Suzuki Swift GS is positioned in Between the Suzuki Swift and the Suzuki Swift Sport and is equipped with a few features of the Swift sport, but not all of it. Now, this has created a nice even spread, and there is now a Swift to suit the tastes and budgets of everyone out in the market looking for a Hatchback.
The front of the Suzuki Swift GS is characterized by a new sporty grille and also the new projector lamps with a HID Bulb which makes the headlamp cluster look more premium. The highlight from the side is clearly the addition of 16-inch alloy wheels. At the rear of the car, one can find that the tail lamps are taken straight out of the Swift sport and the addition of the spoiler too makes the car look very sporty indeed.
There will be no mechanical changes made to the Swift for the GS variant and everything under the hood will continue to be the same as the standard Swift petrol it is based on. The Swift GS is powered by the 1.4 liter K-series petrol engine with a maximum power output of 95 PS and a maximum torque output of 130 NM and this twisting force will be sent to the front wheels through either a 5-speed manual gearbox or a 4-speed automatic gearbox.
While Suzuki will not be launching the Swift Sport or the Swift GS in India, we definitely can expect sporty looking special editions coming from Maruti Suzuki every now and then. Maruti Suzuki will be launching the new Swift sometime next year and we will be getting a Swift driven by an AMT (Automatic Manual Transmission) gearbox and even the existing engines will be given a tune-up. We will also be getting a Hybrid variant of the Swift.
