The Chevrolet Tavera is nothing more than a rebadged Isuzu Panther that does the rounds as an MUV in various South East Asian countries. General Motors India brought the Isuzu Panther to India and launched it as the Tavera MUV, to take on the likes of the Toyota Qualis, which itself was called the Kijang in South Asian markets, and the Tata Sumo.
Chevrolet is now planning to launch the new Tavera matted with BSIV emission compliant by the end of December in India. The car is very well accepted by the cab operators in India.
The new BSIV compliant diesel engine will be borrowed from the ICML Sonalika Rhino MUV and it should be a 2.0-litre CRDI developing around 100bhp replaces the currently serving 2.5-liter diesel engine.
Chevrolet’s new Tavera will have a new engine expected with some cosmetic changes such as new alloys, body graphics, new grille, clear lens lamps and a slight change to the interior.
We managed to chance upon a few images of the 2011 Isuzu Panther, which very well could be how the 2011 Chevrolet Tavera could look. All said, General Motors India might launch the 2011 Tavera MUV in the second half of 2011, after the Chevrolet Beat Diesel’s launch.
