First spy pictures of BMW 3-Series GT (or 3-Series Gran Turismo) caught testing in India, somewhere in Pune. This GT is basically a fastback version of the 3-Series sedan and has more space on offer. Earlier BMW India launched a limited edition of the 5-Series GT model, and the car was imported into the country through the completely built unit (CBU) route. Now as AutoCarIndia reported, BMW has started testing 3-Series GT in India.
In India, the 3-Series GT is expected to be imported into India through the completely built unit (CBU) route and will be unveiled at the upcoming 2014 Indian Auto Expo. Although this car is based on the F30 3-Series platform, comes with dimensions that almost rival those of the bigger 5-Series. The 3-Series GT is a full 200mm longer, 19mm wider and 79mm taller than the sedan version. The wheelbase also goes up by 110 mm.
On the inside, front and rear passengers are accommodated in a seating position that is raised by 59mm. With the longer wheelbase, the rear seat passengers get a 70mm knee room improvement and a bigger boot space. The tailgate is electrically operated and the rear seats offer 40:20:40 split. The seats can be folded down to increase the already sufficient boot space to an enormous 1600 litres.
Visually, the BMW 3-Series GT’s profile features a coupe like roofline whereas the front and the rear-ends get treatment similar to what’s seen on the F30 3-Series sedan, but the rear receives its own share of attractions, with a lift-back type of rear gate and catchy tail-lamps. The rim design is a class apart, and gives a rich look. The interiors of the BMW 3 GT too are carried over from the F30 3-Series model.
According to sources, BMW will offer only diesel engines as options for the 3-Series GT. The familiar 2.0-litre 4-cylinder turbo diesel engine that outputs 184 Bhp-380 Nm and a 3.0-litre straight six diesel motor that outputs 254 Bhp-560 Nm are likely to be offered on the 3 GT. Although both these variants will utilize the power of ZF 8-speed automatic power to transit power on rear wheels, the basic difference will be only of engine configuration.
BMW India will unveil the 3-Series GT at the 2014 Auto Expo, while launch is scheduled for in Februar-2014. As said above, the 3 GT is expected to be imported into India through the completely built unit (CBU) route and will be priced in the range of Rs 45-50 lakh.
