India’s leading SUV manufacturer, Mahindra & Mahindra has shown sympathy towards their two-wheelers, and unveiled the forgotten Stallio in new avatar called ‘Pantero’, the company had also showcased another premium variant based of Stallio called ‘Centuro’. Both the Centuro and Pantero motorcycles share most of their parts and are powered by a Mahindra developed MCI-5 (Micro Chip Ignited 5-Curve) engine. The Panthero is scheduled for launch in the second half of January-2013, while the Centuro will happen over the next-months, we predict might be in March-2013.
Mahindra Panthero –
This is a regular commuter motorcycle and will be very affordable, it has good manoeuvrability, and also thanks to its low turning radius. It basically the Stallio 110, along with the new name, and with a few cosmetic changes like the all black coat of the new engine, the new body decals and the redesigned seat, which is longer and wider. Although the Pantero is the cheaper bike, it has a storage compartment and a huge tank pad, which are missing in the Centuro.
Pantero will be available in four variants with four different colours viz., fiery red, sterling silver, blazing black and cool black. The four variants include T-1 (Self Start/Cast Alloy Wheels/ Digital Console), T-2 (Self Start/ Cast Alloy Wheels/ Analog Console), T-3 (Kick Start/ Cast Alloy Wheels/ Analog Console) and T-4 (Kick Start/ Spoke/ Analog Console). The bike is expected at a price tag of Rs.45,000 and 49,000. It will be positioned in the A2 segment, where it will compete with the likes of Splendor, Passion and Discover 100.
Mahindra Centuro –
The Centuro is a stylish avatar of the Panthero and comes with a longer wheelbase. It uses the same engine as the Pantero, but comes loaded to the gills with features, many of which are a first for the 110cc commuter segment. The Centuro gets Central locking, anti-theft system with an engine immobiliser, remote 128-bit encrypted flip-key with LED lights, find me lights to locate the bike in crowded parking lots and guide lamps that continues to illuminate as one walks away from the bike after parking it. The bike also comes with LED tail and pilot lamps, white fully-lit digital instrument cluster with service and distance-to-empty fuel indicator.
The details like the shade and pricing aren’t revealed by the company but we predict the Centuro might be available in 4 shade options that include Red, Black, Blue and Silver with a price ranging between Rs.50,000 and 52,000. And like the today launched Bajaj Discover 100T, this too will join the race in 100cc A3 segment with the Honda Dream Yuga and Hero Passion Pro, which are priced between Rs 46,000 to Rs 51,000 at present.
Both the Pantero and Centuro is powered by a 106.7cc single-cylinder engine which produces 8.5 PS of power at 7500 RPM and 8.5 Nm of torque at 5500 RPM. The MCI-5 engine is mated to a 4-speed gearbox and the Pantero boasts of an ARAI certified mileage of 79.5 kmpl. But there are few mechanical changes in the units powering the two bikes, while the Centuro doesn’t go on sales immediately, thus more details are not available.
