Ertiga, the product of Japanese auto major-Suzuki, has set the sales chart on fire in most of the emerging markets including India and Indonesia. Rumor has it that the Suzuki Indonesia will be launching an Automatic Transmission variant of the same vehicle. This rumor has been surfaced since August-2012. Now, the Ertiga AT is confirmed for Indonesian market, making it to be the first MPV to come with an automatic gearbox. It can be expected to be launched in 2013.
Currently in Indonesia only the petrol variant is available constituting of a 1.4-litre K-series petrol engine. The K-Series motor outputs 94 Bhp-130 Nm. The AT version consisting of 4-speed automatic transmission gearbox is also expected to be housed on the same engine. While the AT variant is launched in Indonesia, it can be expected to be launched in India as well, as India is one of the largest market for Japanese giant in the world.
In India, Ertiga gets an added option for engine in the form of a 1.3-litre turbo diesel engine which is mated on to a 5-speed manual gearbox. The diesel variant is one of the main sellers in India as Indians prefer diesel power over petrol power. It displaces 1,248cc and produces 90 Bhp-200 Nm. But the bad news is that the diesel powered version is expected to continue with manual gearbox itself.
Suzuki Ertiga is one of the hot choices in Indian market because it’s comparatively lighter, lower price and delivers a higher fuel economy than many other MPV like Toyota Innova and Mahindra Xylo. The new AT variant is going to be an added advantage making the sales go higher, yet another reason for celebration.
