Toyota have recently showcased the next generation of their Corolla Altis premium sedan globally. The Corolla Altis, a global bestseller for the company, was unveiled in its next-generation at the 2018 Guangzhou International Auto Show held in China. As far as its India launch is concerned, we can expect it to happen late next-year.
Coming to the premium sedan, it sports a sharp exterior design theme. The Corolla Altis has sleek LED headlamps and tail-lamps, bigger air inlets and attractive looking alloy wheels. It is underpinned by Toyota’s famed TNGA platform, thus improving its ride quality as well as its safety.
The interiors are based on the ‘Sensuous Minimal Concept’. This enables the Corolla Altis to get a contemporarily placed interior setup dominated by an 8.2-inch touchscreen infotainment system. Most of the upcoming models from Toyota’s stable are expected to use this concept as well.
Engine-wise, the China-spec Corolla Altis is offered on both petrol and hybrid options. The petrol one will be a 1.2-litre, turbocharged motor capable of delivering 115 BHP of power. On the other hand, the hybrid motor is a 1.8-litre setup making 121 BHP of power.
However, both these motors will not be taken into consideration when the next-generation Corolla Altis comes here. Instead, it will come powered by the existing set of engines, namely the 1.8-litre petrol one and the 1.4-litre diesel one. The Corolla Altis could also be having the 1.5-litre diesel motor borrowed from the Maruti Suzuki Ciaz, under its hood.
Prices are expected to start from Rs. 14 lakh and go all the way to Rs. 22 lakh for the top trims. When launched, the next-generation Corolla Altis will rival the likes of the Skoda Octavia, Hyundai Elantra and the upcoming Honda Civic. At present, the Corolla Altis is the highest selling premium sedan in India, so we can expect the next-generation model to carry forward its winning streak.
