Recently, the car was spotted undergoing its testing phase here. The test mule was of the mid-size SUV, which will be launched in South American markets soon. A derivative of these models will be designed keeping Indian conditions in mind before its launch.

The T-Cross is part of the Volkswagen Group’s 2.0 plan in India. This plan will see the automaker bringing in a compact SUV and a premium SUV to our market in the future. When launched, the T-Cross will sit below the Tiguan in Volkswagen’s India line-up.

As per the demands of the segment, the T-Cross will be coming with a host of features. These include an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system, LED headlamps and tail-lamps, integrated roof spoiler, multi-functional steering wheel, automatic climate control and so on. Coming to its safety, the T-Cross will get dual airbags on the front, ABS with EBD, ESP and hill traction control.

As far as the engines are concerned, there is a 1.0-litre, three-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine which produces 115 BHP of power. There is also an option of a 1.4-litre TSI diesel engine which gives about 150 BHP of power. The petrol motor will come mated either to a 6-speed manual or a 7-speed automatic, while the diesel one will be available only in a 6-speed automatic transmission.

Volkswagen will give the T-Cross the cost-effective MQB-AO platform, which will be underpinning future models from the company. The T-Cross will have its rivals in the form of the Jeep Compass, Hyundai Creta and upcoming models like the Tata Harrier and Nissan Kicks. We can expect the mid-size SUV to be priced around Rs. 15 lakh when being launched.
