The India’s favourite ‘family MPV’ is coming back in its second generation incarnation, and we have a first look at it here. The next-generation 2016 Innova MPV has been spotted for the first time on the roads of Bangalore, India. While it stays fresh in our minds, the original Toyota Innova having been launched in 2004 in India, is now an ten-year-old design.

Although it’s wearing heavy disguise, we expect the 2016 Innova MPV to use a similiar formula to the Fortuner SUV – an evolution more than a revolution, with a focus on increased comfort and luxury. The new generation Toyota Innova will be based on Toyota’s new global platform TNGA (Toyota New Global Architecture) and this platform will also underpins the next-gen Fortuner SUV. The 2016 Innova is expected to retain its 7-seat functionality, along with improved road manners and refinement levels.
The entire MPV is covered for now, but the Innova’s signature profile isn’t to be missed. This prototype has a less aggressive grille up front, the 2016 Innova is likely to gain many upmarket features such as projector headlamps and shark fin antenna. The 2016 Innova is expected to be larger than the outgoing model and this is evident from the spyshots , with the extended cabin behind the C-Pillar. Also check out the new 5-spoke alloy wheel design in the spy picture.

The next-generation Innova will feature a new range of diesel engines which are under development. The highlight of the 2016 Innova is that the diesel variant will receive an automatic transmission that it currently is not so far in Innova variants. The next-generation 2016 Innova MPV is expected to hit Indian roads by the end-2015, which is about two years after its latest facelift.
