2015 BMW X6 officially unveiled, market debut in Dec-2014

BMW first launched the production-spec X6 model at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit in 2008 and in India in 2009. The X6 has been a successful model for the company with global sales exceeding 2,50,000 units over a span of about 6 years. Now the German car manufacturer has wrapped-off the second-generation X6.

The new 2015 X6 looks very much an evolution of the current car, only gaining a few new styling cues such as the current BMW corporate face, Air Curtains and Air Breathers as well as the bulging rear haunches from the X4. At the front, the design elements are those seen on the new X5: Larger headlights that flow into the grille, a sportier bumper and a bigger kidney grille.

However, while the X5 has a traditional SUV look, the X6 gets a sloping roofline like a coupe. BMW terms this body style as SAV (Sports Activity Vehicle). Even the interiors have been revamped along the lines of the new X5 and lend a more premium feel to the car. The 2015 X6 is based on a new platform borrowed from the current-generation X5 SUV, which was recently launched in India.

In the International markets, the X6 will be initially offered with petrol V8 and two in-line six cylinder diesel engines in the xDrive50i, xDrive30d and a M50d variants. An xDrive35i and an xDrive40d will also be available later on, and all models will feature an eight-speed Steptronic sport automatic as standard, as the name suggests.

In Europe, the second-generation X6 will go on-sale in December this-year. The xDrive40d variant though, will not start sales until spring 2015 (March-April 2015). We expect BMW India to launch the xDrive40d variant of new X6 in mid-2015. The current model is priced at Rs. 99 lakhs (ex-showroom), and a price increase could be rolled-out on the 2015 X6.
