Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM) has officially launched the 2014 Toyota Corolla Altis – the India-built 11th-generation Corolla debuts here in nine variants, including five petrol and four diesel variants. Mated to a common six-speed manual transmission, the saloon also comes with an autobox option on the top petrol trims.
Bookings for the 2014 Corolla has started on in February this year when the car was unveiled at the Auto Expo, and has already received over 1,300 bookings for the sedan with equal weightage for petrol and diesel models, even before the launch. The company says that the Corolla has a 3 month waiting period currently.
Looks-wise, the 2014 Corolla Altis is a much sharper looking proposition – the frontal styling is certainly rakish. Viewed from the side, the new Altis has a longer profile that is visually ‘extended’ by a long straight character line that runs from front to back. Furthermore, the exterior features a new chrome grille, LED headlamps, DRLs, tail lamps and a redesigned rear end.
At the rear, the flow of the rear chrome garnish, combination lamps and character lines are seamlessly connected, with the trunk lid and rear bumper forming a continuous surface.
On the inside, the 2014 Corolla Altis features a redesigned interior as well. The list of equipment includes push button start/stop, 7-inch touch screen audio system with navigation, rear camera with reverse sensor, 8-way adjustable powered driver seat, reclining rear seats, cruise control and rain sensors. Safety features include dual front airbags and ABS with EBD.
Under the hood, the 2014 Corolla Altis is offered with a choice of two engines. The petrol variant will be equipped with 1.8-litre VVT-I petrol engine, producing 140 PS @ 4000 rpm and 173 Nm of torque @ 4000 rpm, mated to a 6-speed manual gearbox or a CVT with 7 stepped ratios. While the diesel mill will be empowered with 1.4-litre D-4D engine developing 88.4 PS @ 3800 rpm and 205 Nm of torque @ 1800-2800 rpm, coupled to a 6-speed manual transmission.
