Tata Motor’s British subsidiary Land Rover has been rumored to be revealing a new extended wheelbase version of their beloved flagship Range Rover in a bid to meet demand for cars with larger interiors. This demand stems from China’s frivolous crowd, who likes to be driven rather than driving themselves. Now the company has officially revealed the model, the first Range Rover with an extended wheelbase since the Range Rover Classic from over 20 years ago.
The stretched Range Rover comes with subtle ‘L’ badges behind the front wheel arches, powered side door blinds, a panoramic sunroof and increased stowage as standard. The long-wheelbase will be available in Vogue, Vogue SE, Autobiography and Autobiography Black, while a hybrid will be added next year. This model has around 140mm extra space for the rear seats and the rear seats can be customized as executive bucket seats, or as a rear bench. It also gets new leather seats which offer memory settings, a message function and climate control for all passengers in the car.
The Range Rover Autobiography Black variants will be available in both standard and long-wheelbase variants. Compared to regular Autobiography variants gets three exclusive colour combos – Ebony/Lunar, Espresso/Tan and Dark Cherry/Ivory. Also gets an redesigned rear center console with electrically deployed tables with integrated USB sockets and cup holders. Tread plates are illuminated with ‘Autobiography Black’ script and there’s a brushed stainless steel tailgate finisher. Other changes include new detailing to the front grille and two new 7-spoke 21- and 22-inch wheels.
The Range Rover long wheelbase (LWB) is all-set to debut at next month’s LA Motor Show, while the Autobiography Black edition will make its debut at the Dubai Motor Show in early-November. However, the deliveries of both the long-wheelbase Range Rover and Autobiography Black edition will start from March-2014.
