Piaggio is one of the finest auto makers known to have manufactured amazing products in the two-wheeler segment. From their bikes to scooters, all products have been received well in the market. Vespa scooters became an instant hit and showed incredible sale figures. Their popularity and rage is growing steadily.
Piaggio Vehicles has been planning to showcase its engineering capabilities by displaying their global portfolio at the ongoing 2014 Auto Expo event. The company has hinted how seriously it is considering India as its market. The auto maker has a pavilion twice the size it had at the last Auto Expo event held in 2012. The bikes that Piaggio has introduced at its line-up include the popular Vespa scooters and other Italian bikes Moto Guzzi and Aprilia.
Piaggio showcased Moto Guzzi and Aprilia Superbikes at 2014 Auto Expo
Aprilia RSV4 is a 1000cc bike with V4 engine while Moto Guzzi California 1400 is a 1380cc bike with V-Twin engine. The company is considering bringing Aprilia and Moto Guzzi motorcycles in the Indian market via CKD route as Piaggio sees a lot of potential in this route in the country’s market. However, currently the two bikes are already getting sold here on ‘on-demand’ basis. Piaggio wants to increase the visibility of these two brands in the market and is, hence, working on widening its dealership network. Presently it has two outlets in Pune and New Delhi.
Piaggio has also stated that they will not be launching any new Vespa scooter at the Auto Expo. However, Vespa S is in line to be launched near the end of this month. Vespa S will feature a 125cc engine and have certain cosmetic changes. Also present at the pavilion was Bellagio, a 935cc bike with V-Twin engine. This motorcycle, too, is being presently sold in India. We hope these bikes also become as popular as the Vespa scooters.
