Like most of the Maruti cars, the updated Wagon-R hatch too silently made its appearance in the Indian car market. This new model price tag starts at Rs. 3.58 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi), which would cost around Rs. 3.98 lakh (on-road, Delhi). Though the new Wagon-R is costlier by Rs 10,000, it gets a long list of exterior and interior upgrades with a high mileage delivery than the outgoing model.
On the outside, the 2013 Wagon-R has a big grille cut by a horizontal line with the upper half thinner in comparison to the outgoing version while the lower half with the bigger air dam looks a tad aggressive, a family trait considering the new design language from Maruti on its latest cars, such as the Ertiga and the Swift Dzire. The headlamp with a blue tint from the 2012 version has been retained though.
The interior of the 2013 Maruti Suzuki Wagon-R gets reworked. The dashboard now gets a dual-tone colour scheme – beige for the top half and black for the bottom. The LX and LXi get dual-colour, beige and black seats, while the top-end VXi gets all-beige upholstery. Exclusive to the top VXi variant is a fully integrated ‘Eagle Wings’ audio system with USB and AUX ports. Also the new rear view mirror with Day-Night surface has been added.
Mechanically the new Wagon-R remains unchanged but Maruti claims eight per cent more fuel economy than before. With new improvisations in place, Maruti is able to achieve a mileage delivery of new Maruti Wagon-R to 20.51 kmpl. This is considered to be very good mileage from a car that has space, features and long life. Therefore, the upgrade makes the new Maruti Suzuki Wagon-R a better product both in looks and feel.
