As per scheduled, Honda has launched the fourth-generation CR-V in India at a starting price of Rs 19.95 (ex-showroom, Delhi), which is about 3 lakh cheaper than the outgoing model. Since its now being produced in India, it attracts less taxes and increase in the localization has helped Honda Cars India to price new CR-V more aggressively.
The new CR-V is available in four trims out of which the base variant comes with a 2.0-litre petrol engine and manual transmission, while the second variant comes with the same 2.0-litre petrol engine mated to an automatic gearbox. The other two variants are powered by a more powerful 2.4-litre petrol engine and are mated to automatic gearboxes as well and come with a real time 4-wheel-drive system.
The new CR-V gets a new grille with the headlamps also now looking sharper than before. Though the CR-V is shorter in length by 30mm than the outgoing SUV, but thanks to some clever interior packaging, it offers a wider and more spacious cabin with more storage spaces. So on the whole, the car has become more compact, aggressive and stylish, something that the world demands today.
Inside, the new CR-V boasts of having a new dashboard and steering wheel. Honda has kitted the steering wheel with audio and cruise control as also multi information display as standard. Bluetooth connectivity and satellite navigation comes standard in the top of the line variant and even the base trims get DVD, USB, iPod connectivity and reverse camera.
As far as safety concerned, Honda Motors hasn’t compromised on the safety as well and blessed new Honda CR-V with a string of advanced and exciting safety features. Some of the major ones comprise of ABS, EBD and BA along with OPDS, airbags, Hill Start Assist, G-Con Technology, Motion Adaptive Electric Power Steering, and the list goes on & on.
However, the diesel engine still could not make it to India, and we aren’t expecting that to come any time before 2014.
