German car manufacturer, Volkswagen currently has Beetle and Polo small luxury cars in India and both these have done pretty well for quite some time. Now that Volkswagen still misses a small car in the entry level segment in India, it is all prepared to launch a Volkswagen Up based small car in India, China and other Asian countries. The Volkswagen’s small car will be launched sometime next year and will have diesel and petrol engine option. The new small car price as well as other details is though not public yet; experts believe that the small car by Volkswagen will be priced around Rs 4-5 lakh.

Volkswagen has by now tested the small car market with its Volkswagen Polo and Volkswagen Beetle but is yet to taste the hottest segment which is the entry level hatchback in India. If the German car maker is able to bring a reasonable car in this segment, experts suggest that it will sell like hotcakes. Volkswagen knows this that introducing an attractively priced car in a segment will attract much enthusiasm and activity on the sales chart. It has done this to the sedan segment with the Volkswagen Vento launch and now it is high time that it introduces a small car that is both attractively priced and is available in diesel option as well. Currently the most affordably priced car in the diesel small car segment is Tata Indica which is under Rs 4 lakh.

The new Volkswagen small car which is expected to storm the Indian small car market will be powered by 800cc petrol while the diesel variant will be powered by a 1.2L engine. Volkswagen small car will be majorly fighting with the small cars offered by Maruti India and Hyundai. Both these car makers are market leaders and the new small car by the German will have to very much equip with features and above all it should have an affordable price compared to the cars by these giants in India.
