Japanese two-wheeler company Yamaha India is planning to introduce scooters in the Indian market to boost its topline.
“We have a number of scooters in other markets like US and Europe and currently, we are studying the Indian market. We will launch entry level scooters here soon,” the Yamaha Motor India director and chief sales officer, Mr Jun Nakata, said.
Another company official said the launch was expected by 2012. Yamaha India would manufacture the scooters at either of its existing facilities at Surajpur and Faridabad.
During last New Delhi Auto Expo Yamaha had displayed some of their gearless scooter products. But India Yamaha Motors are yet to spell out which are all models are being planned for Indian market.
The competition in Indian gearless scooter market is becoming tougher as every quarter a new product joining the race. While Honda Activa continuing to be unstoppable, Suzuki Access, TVS Wego and Mahindra Rodeo also managed to grow significantly in recent past. So India Yamaha has to create a unique product to make an impact in this market.
Yamaha is also aiming to double its bike sales to 500,000 units this year.
