Volkswagen are considering the launch of a compact SUV in India soon. This project is under development and is expected to hit floors by early next year. Meanwhile, Volkswagen will launch this SUV in China in August this-year.
This project has been signed by the Volkswagen group with emerging markets, including India, in mind. It will occupy a place, in between the Tiguan and the India-bound compact SUV, the T-Cross. It will be under pinned by Volkswagen’s cost-effective MQB platform, which will also feature in the Skoda Karoq.
Engine-wise, Volkswagen will give this mid-size SUV 1.0-litre and 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engines. On the diesel front, it will be powered by 2.0-litre and 1.6-litre diesel engines. It will come mated either to a 6-speed manual gearbox or a 7-speed DSG gearbox.
Expect it to be priced at around Rs 15-17 lakhs, which is in the territory of many mid-size SUV’s here. It will rival the likes of the Jeep Compass, Hyundai Tucson and Renault Capture. With Volkswagen lining up a slew of launches in the Indian market, we can expect the automaker to hit a home run with this mid-size SUV.
