We had reported in May-2013 that Toyota India is planning to add a compact SUV to its range. Now after a long-time the firstever spy picture of Toyota Rush compact SUV has been snapped in India wearing heavy camouflage. However, the Rush isn’t coming to India anytime soon, at least the current generation, its not India bound and its better not, because it looks outdated.
Having debuted wayback in 2006, the company sells Toyota Rush as Daihatsu Terios in some markets. An engine option for the Rush does not include a diesel mill and according to the report, Toyota isn’t keen on re-engineering the current, almost dead Rush with a diesel engine specifically for the Indian market, which is unfeasible as the car is nearing the end of its life cycle. However, the next-generation Rush, that’s currently under development, should make it to India.
The next-generation Rush will be developed keeping the Indian market in mind. On the other hands, there are reports that the Rush spotted on-test is probably being used by a rival company as a benchmark for developing new products, probably Tata Motors because they have their R&D centre in Pune – MH 14 – Pimpri Chinchwad region and alongside they are currently working on its rival Nexon compact crossover.
As per Zauba, Toyota Rush was imported into India back in 2013 for R&D purpose.
Tata Nexon Concept was showcased at IIMS 2014 in Jakarta, Indonesia, soon after unveil at 2014 Delhi Auto Expo, thus, Tata Motors could be keen on rivaling the Rush in Indonesia by launching Nexon there soon after its launched in India.
