Tata Motors have decided that they will not axe the Nano from its model line-up for now. Though Nano has no demand for now and there have also been questions regarding the future of the brand for some time now. It is aimed for those on a budget and belongs to the entry-level hatchback segment.
There are possibilities of Tata Motors giving the car an update to keep it fresh. Almost a decade has passed since the launch of the Nano, and the road has certainly not been smooth. After a decent start, where it sold around 2 lakh units in its first 3 years, the Nano has since then fallen off the radar.
It was perceived to be the ‘1 lakh car’ project, spearhead by then Tata Group chairman, Mr. Ratan Tata. Given its pre-launch expectations, the Nano has failed to meet them by a huge extent. The Nano comes with a 624cc engine giving 38 BHP of power and 51 Nm of torque mated to a 4-speed manual gearbox with a 5-speed automatic gearbox as an option.
There have also been rumours that Tata Motors could launch an electric version of the Nano, which is yet to be confirmed. As of now, Tata Motors have moved beyond the Nano and have been doing-well recently in sales. It is thus important for Tata Motors to continue the Nano, since they do not have any other product in the entry-level hatchback segment.
