Tata Motors is now currently working on a hatchback which would be based on ‘XO’ or ‘Dolphin’. The new hatchback is expected to sit between Tata Nano and Indica in terms of price and positioning. Tata Motors had recently introduced HORIZONEXT strategy, and the upcoming hatchback would be a part of this new strategy and would also be built based on Vista’s platform.
Clear images of this new hatchback are not yet available. The latest speculative sketch constructed by Team BHP’s rendering artist, AntlerRoad gives us a clear view of how the car would look. AntlerRoad has made this speculative sketch based on the information obtained from one of the sources close to this new hatchback project. Tata Motors is in great need of new products as the car maker looks and feels outdated compared to the competition from other car brands in the Indian market. Tata Motors is expected to launch the new XO/Dolphin hatchback in 2015. Until then, the car maker plans to focus on refreshing the existing line-up and tightening quality and production processes.
The XO hatchback would be featured with a tall boy design and is expected to compete Maruti Alto 800, Hyundai Eon and the upcoming Datsun Go hatchbacks. Coming to the technical specifications, XO would be powered with a 3-cylinder engine which in turn would be available in both petrol and diesel motor options. Production of the X0 is expected to happen in Tata Motors’s Sanand factory at Gujarat.
