Earlier last-month, we brought you guys the rendered image of Mahindra’s upcoming compact SUV codenamed ‘S101’. Now the same has been spotted again by the folks at MotorVikatan, who’re carrying the spyshots on their Facebook page. As seen the car is in early stages of development and won’t be launched before 2014-end or early-2015.
At first look the heavily camouflaged car looks like Honda N Concept with circular headlamps instead of rectangular in shape. Mahindra is yet to reveal any official details of their baby SUV project. But the word going around suggests that S101 will compete with the new range of car’s which will be launched in the range of Rs 4 lakhs to Rs 6 lakhs in India.
The S101 is based on an all-new monocoque chassis and it will be a small sub 4 meter mini SUV. It will be a front-wheel -rive car and will get engines adhering to the ‘Small’ car excise duty definition ie expect a 1.5-liters for diesel, and if there’s a petrol option, expect that to displace between 1.0-1.2-liters perhaps with turbocharging. The XUV branding is advisable to use, perhaps this could be sold as the XUV250.
Positioned below the Mahindra Quanto, the S101 will sit on a new platform with a monocoque body as against of the ladder frame chassis as was seen in the Quanto. The S101 will have a sporty design as compared to Quanto and should be a 6-seater, judging from spy shots available.
