SPYSHOTS: Nissan Magnite starts road-testing, launch in 2021

Nissan are all set to introduce a few newer additions to their India line-up soon to strengthen their presence here. All of this will be starting from the launch of the Magnite compact SUV, which Nissan claims to be a very important product for them in India. The automaker will be officially introducing the Magnite here in early 2021.

2021 Nissan Magnite is based on the Alliance’s CMF-A+ platform which will also serve the Renault Kiger.

Recently, a test mule of the compact SUV was spied in Pune. These pictures clicked by automotive enthusiast Amber Jain, shows the Magnite wrapped around in heavy camouflage. It looks like the Magnite is undergoing the ARAI homologation approval test before it eventually goes on floors.

On the design front, the Magnite will be quite similar to its concept version which was recently unveiled by Nissan. The automaker had also teased the compact SUV before and it looked quite a promising product looking at the pictures. The Magnite will benefit from the CMF-A+ platform, which will also be seen on Renault’s own compact SUV, the Kiger.

Both cars will feature a new 1.0 litre turbocharged petrol motor, which is nearing its production at the moment. This engine will produce power and torque figures in excess of 100 BHP and 160 Nm respectively. The engine will come mated to a 5-speed manual transmission, with a CVT variant also likely to be on the cards.

Nissan Magnite derives its roots from the Datsun Go-Cross concept which debuted 5 years ago.

The Magnite is said to be a feature-loaded model coming from Nissan’s stable and if it does turn out to be true, we can be pretty satisfied with the effort put in by the automaker. We expect the Magnite to come at an aggressive price in order to give it a chance against a few established competitors. These include the Hyundai Venue, Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza, Ford Ecosport, Mahindra XUV300, Tata Nexon, Kia Sonet and of course the Renault Kiger.
