Previously we brought you the images of the Volkswagen Up! 5-door and 3-door versions spotted in Pune. Now IndianAutosBlog reader named Michael Tomy has managed to click a few images of the Volkswagen Up! spotted at Viman Nagar, Pune. Notably, the Up! is a small car by the German car maker and it will be the most affordable car as well and will be priced below Volkswagen Polo.
The car spotted by IAB reader is a 3-door version like the 2003 Maruti Suzuki Zen 3-door Carbon and Steel edition with a limited production run, However, we predict that Volkswagen might only launch the 5-door version of the Up! in India has it has already learnt the lesson with the unsuccess of 3-door Maruti Zen car due to the lesser practicality.
Remember the company has never surely said that it will be launching the car in India but then VW came with the statement that it is still considering the car for India and first it will undergo feasibility survey for it. Same was also said for the Skoda Citigo small car. However, the fate of Citigo is still undisclosed but it is strongly said that it will also be launched in India soon. Both the Citigo as well as the Up! small car will compete with the likes of the Maruti Wagon-R and the Hyundai i10 in India.
The Volkswagen Up! might come to India with the 1.0-litre, three-cylinder petrol engine generating 60hp or 75 hp. The engine is mated to a five speed manual gearbox delivering 27 kmpl on a European cycle. However, if the company wants to shake things up they need to plonk a compact diesel engine with 20+ kmpl. And also there are reports that, Volkswagen is producing majority of the car components in India to pull down the price to rock bottom level.
