A Couple of months ago Volkswagen launched the all new Jetta in India, , the automaker surprised one too many with a single diesel fuel option for the Passat with only the 2 Liter, 170 Bhp, common rail turbodiesel engine making it into the equation. A few months down the line, even the Jetta was launched with a diesel engine option with no petrol engine making it to the final spec sheet.
Now our friends at Oncars.in have spotted a test mule of the new Jetta with the 1.8-litre TSI petrol putting out 160 bhp of power and 250 Nm of torque, it’s the same 1.8-litre TSI mill which powers the existing Skoda Laura petrol and recently found another home in the Skoda Laura RS. In the Skoda cars, the 18-litre TSI returns a fuel economy of 13.37 kmpl.
The petrol version of Volkswagen Jetta is available in Europe where three petrol engine options are offered with capacities ranging from 1.2 to 2 Liters. According to Euro specifications, Jetta petrol comes with choices of 6 and 7 speed DSG gearboxes. However, expect a 6-speed manual transmission in base variant with six speed automatic DSG transmission in the top end version. But, it remains a mystery as to when Volkswagen will launch the petrol variant of the Jetta in India.
As far as pricing is concerned it’s expected that Volkswagen Jetta 1.8 TSI to cost Rs 14-lakh for the base model with the top end variants crossing the Rs 17-lakh mark. Stay tuned for more!
