Skoda are trying their best in improving their sales numbers in India. Along with VW, the automaker revealed their ‘India 2.0’ strategy, as part of the Volkswagen Group. The debut product from this strategy will be a mid-size SUV from the Czech automaker.
This mid-size SUV will be showcased at the 2020 Auto Expo. It will be based on the Volkswagen Group’s MQB AO IN platform, which at present is undergoing localisation. This platform will also underpin the Volkswagen T-Cross coming later on.
Skoda recently revealed a teaser image of the concept version of the vehicle. We can say that it has quite a few similarities with the Vision X concept showcased at 2018 Geneva Motor Show. Globally, the Vision X is expected to enter production by March 2019.
As far as its India launch is concerned, the vehicle may arrive in late 2020. This will co-incide with the VW Group’s plan to introduce the first batch of MQB AO IN vehicles here. Skoda will follow it up with the launch of a compact SUV in 2021.
The VW Group did say that this platform will have up to 95% localisation. So, we can expect the mid-size SUV to be launched with an aggressive price tag. It will rival the Jeep Compass, Hyundai Creta, Tata Harrier and Maruti’s upcoming SUV when launched here.
