Mercedes Benz recently launched the all new SLK 320 convertible sportster in India a few days back. Now, the German carmaker has officially revealed the sportier version of the SLK – the 2012 SLK 55 AMG.
The third-generation AMG model features the brand’s latest and greatest technology and kit. However, let’s start with the most important stuff. AMG’s new 5.5L V8 makes its way into the SLK55 AMG producing 415hp and 398 lb-ft of torques through Mercedes-Benz’s 7G-TRONIC 7-speed automatic with AMG SpeedShift technology. The result is a 0-60 time of 4.5 seconds and a limited top speed of 155 mph. It is an all-new design features that not only favors performance, but also economy.
Thanks to AMG’s new Cylinder Management system, the SLK55 AMG can cancel out cylinders two, three and five under partial load to help increase fuel economy. Additionally, the engine features many lightweight components to keep the engine weight low.
Also standard is Mercedes-Benz’s new panoramic roof that’s integrated into the SLK’s folding metal origami. The Magic Sky Control allows drivers to control how much light comes through the roof.
The SLK55 AMG will make its public debut at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September. We expect the car to be shown at the 2012 Auto Expo as well with its Indian launch scheduled for early-2012.
