Mahindra Automotive North America (MANA) has unveiled its new off-road vehicle for the US market, called Mahindra Roxor. A total of 4 paint shades are on offer – Carbon Black, Classic White, Fire Orange and Tahoe Blue.
The Mahindra Roxor shares its chassis and engine with the Mahindra Thar DI that’s sold in India but comes with some tuning to meet the US regulations. The company has also modified the front grille to avoid any legal issues with Jeep in the USA.
The Roxor is inspired from the classic CJ series Jeep. This bare-bones SUV has 2-seats, a roll cage and it does not have doors or windshield or even a hard top. The interior is very basic, albeit functional with a circular, white-faced speedometer positioned in the centre of the dashboard, a 3-spoke steering wheel and a grab handle on the passenger side.
Mahindra has equipped the Roxor with the same mechanicals as the Thar DI 4WD, which comes powered by a 2.5-liter turbocharged diesel engine with 62 BHP of peak power and 180 Nm of peak torque mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox that drives the rear wheels in 2WD mode. In 4WD mode, all four wheels are powered.
The Roxor will be sold through Mahindra’s powersports dealerships and will be assembled at the company’s Ann Arbor, Michigan plant. Official launch date and prices will be announced in coming months.
