Kia Motors are looking to start their Indian operations next year with a bang. The Korean automaker has lined up quite a few interesting products in its pipeline which could be arriving here soon. We can expect Kia to be readying a slew of launches ranging from small hatchbacks to SUV’s.
However, one such model considered for India is the Ceed premium hatchback. The Ceed is a decent seller for Kia globally and measures about 4.3 metres in length. This would mean that the Ceed will not avail tax benefits and be expensive when it gets launched here.
Kia also offers the Ceed in a performance-oriented GT version worldwide. The Ceed GT features an all-black interior, sporty seats and bigger 17-inch alloy wheels. Kia offers the Ceed in both petrol and diesel engines globally.
The petrol engine will be a 1.4-litre, direct-injection, turbo petrol motor producing 140 BHP of power. On the other hand, there will be a 1.6-litre diesel motor which will give 136 BHP of power. The Ceed will be offered in both manual and automatic transmissions.
Kia will bring the Ceed to India via the CKD route, but will be looking in building it in its factory once its demand gets good. Kia have not yet spoken about whether the Ceed will come to India or not, but we can expect it to happen more sooner than later. We can say that launching the Ceed will be an ambitious move by the automaker, considering the failure of expensive hatchbacks here in the past.
