Harley-Davidson is one of the most iconic and immensely popular cult bike maker. It enjoys huge fan following in India. The brand has built its Street 750 motorcycle in India. This model has been responsible for about 60% of the automaker’s sales in the Indian market. The records are of the first month of starting deliveries alone. The Harley Davidson Street 750 bike was launched in February at a price of Rs, 4.1 lacs and it was made available for booking in March.
The Street 750 bike has seen the sale of 210 bikes out of 361 units sold by the company in April 2014 states the records of the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM). Last year, too, the brand sold 146 units. Street 750 is the most affordable bike sold in India out of the 13 models of Harley Davidson. They manufactured 506 units of this motorcycle last month.
Last year the motorcycle maker declared that it will be starting the full scale building of its bikes in India from where the units will be exported to South East Asian and European markets. However, the Co-president and COO of the Harley Davidson Motor has stated the Indian production of bikes is limited to two models: Street 500 and Street 750. The company has been assembling its Completely Knocked Down (CKD) bikes in India in their facility in Bawal.
Outside the US, after Brazil, India is the second nation where Harley Davidson has been carrying out is CKD assembly operating. The company started its operations in India in August, 2009. It offers accessories, spare parts and other general merchandise along with motorcycles. Harley Davidson has a total of 13 dealerships across the country including Ahmedabad, Bangalore, Chandigarh, Chennai, Goa, Hyderabad, Indore, Jaipur, Kochi, Kolkata, Mumbai, New Delhi and Pune.
