At present, Fiat is struggling to make inroads in the Indian market. The Italian automaker is heavily reliant on Jeep in order to make profitable gains. Now, it seems that Fiat are set to come on their own as they are planning on launching a mid-size SUV here.
This mid-size SUV will be based on the Fastback coupe showcased at the Sao Paulo Motor Show. Fiat will herald its next-generation of models based on this design theme. It has been quite a while since Fiat showcased an interesting concept vehicle.
Coming to its design, the front consists of an attractive grille narrow LED headlamps and a sharp chin. On the rear, the concept carries forward a coupe-like roofline and has LED tail-lamps. Fiat has used expensive sheet metal designing technique which has an accentuated belt line along with flared wheel arches.
Reports say that the production version of the vehicle will be based on FCA’s Small Wide Platform. This platform is seen on models such as the Jeep Renegade and the Fiat 500X. We can expect Fiat to reveal the details regarding it soon.
Mechanically, this coupe-SUV will employ the same set of engines seen on the Compass. If the vehicle enters production, the Brazilian version will come with a petrol and ethanol fuel engine. India will be getting both petrol and diesel engine options, when Fiat eventually decide on bringing the vehicle here.
Production is expected to start from early 2019 on-wards. Fiat will also be thinking of launching another mid-size SUV here along with this coupe-SUV, thus in a bid to enhance their presence in the mid-size SUV segment here. The coupe-SUV could be a seriously good option given the fact that it will be offering something new in terms of design.
