Citroen are all set to officially begin their India innings come 2021. The French automaker has started its work and are expected to bring quite a few promising products to our market in the coming years. The first of them will be their upcoming mid-size SUV, the C5 Aircross.
As per reports, the C5 Aircross could be officially coming to the Indian market in April 2021. It will of course be Citroen’s first product in India and will arrive here via the CKD route. The mid-size SUV has been spied undergoing testing on numerous occasions in the past year or so and it is quite encouraging to see Citroen finally bring it here next year.
It will be assembled in Citroen’s newly inaugurated facility which is located in Hosur, Tamil Nadu. The Completely Knocked Down (CKD) kits of the C5 Aircross will arrive from Citroen’s Rennes-La Janais plant in France. It will be the first product coming from Citroen’s C-Cube program, which will further evaluate many of the brand’s future launches.
Engine-wise, the C5 Aircross will come powered by a 2.0 litre turbocharged petrol motor. This engine develops 176 BHP of power and 400 Nm of torque. In addition to that, there could also be a 1.5 litre petrol motor which makes about 128 BHP of power.
The C5 Aircross is expected to be available in transmission options of both manual and automatic by the time of its launch. It is slated to have a long list of features similar to the one sold in European markets. These include an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system, dual zone climate control, reverse parking camera, panoramic sunroof and so on.
On the safety front, we can expect it to carry features such as multiple airbags, ABS with EBD, Electronic Stability Control, Hill Climb Assist and reverse parking sensors to name a few. The C5 Aircross will take on rivals such as the Jeep Compass, Hyundai Tucson, Honda CR-V and the next generation Mahindra XUV500. It could be priced at around Rs.25-30 lakh by the time of its possible launch in April.
The C5 Aircross will herald a slew of product launches from the French automaker which are currently on the pipeline. As per reports, Citroen will be bringing three new products to our shores within a couple of years after commencing their operations. Thus, these could be exciting time for both customers and automotive enthusiasts to give us the experience of a brand like Citroen in India.
